Special Education
The first part of the name FUVIRESE indicates that
it is the Foundation for Life (Fundación de
Vida) For us, that means that we cherish the life of each member
and are dedicated to helping each achieve his or her full potential.
Many of the FUVIRESE children
have serious intellectual as well as physical disabilities.
It's quite a study in dedication and patience to watch our two special education teachers, Pati Luna and Rosa Alomoto, spend hours helping a severely autistic girl appreciate textures or helping a boy with Down Syndrome as he works on coordination by learning to polish his shoes.
In a typical month, these two teachers will spend over 100 hours giving indvidual attention to very special children. They also help parents understand how best to help their children.
These two women know all
about their students, frequently reporting and rejoicing over progress
that few others would be capable of noting. In addition to
the individual attention they lavish on each child, they create most of
their own didactic
materials and have covered the classroom and therapy area walls with colorful,
handpainted murals. Together with their colleagues in physical therapy,
they spend their professional lives in some of the most arduous and rewarding pro-life
activities anyone can imagine.
Your financial help will allow them to provide additional materials and nutritious snacks for their students.
