OUR MEMBERS NEED YOU! !
The children and adults who belong to FUVIRESE have very limited financial resources. While the major cost of their services is underwritten through FUVIRESE USA, a part of the expense must be covered by family or friends.
FUVIRESE members are asked to contribute $1 per session for physical therapy and special education and to help cover the cost of transportation if the FUVIRESE van brings them to and from services.
That might sound minimal to us, but for a family that makes less than $200 a month, it can be nearly impossible to find even $20 to invest in meeting a child’s special needs. Unfortunately, the expenses are often far higher than $20, forcing the family to decide what to give up in order to pay for even minimal treatments.
Each month, this space will highlight the story of one or two of our members who need help to continue to obtain services. We hope that these stories will encourage our friends to underwrite services for our members. Remember, the stories here are examples. The staff at FUVIRESE will determine how to distribute the funds we receive among the members so that the neediest people will receive the necessary priority.
At the end of each month we will publish a list of the contributions to the fund and a report on how they were distributed.
Child Story # 1 Maribel
Maribel is a three year old girl with a congenital disease that limits her brain development. She also has severe asthma which requires daily medication. Maribel is the only child of a single mother who is trying to finish her education. They live with her mother’s parents who farm a small plot of land from which they derive a small income.
The average monthly cost for Maribel’s medicines is $102 and the services she needs at FUVIRESE cost $40 per month.
Her mother would be most grateful for some help with those expenses.
Child Story # 2 Alexander
Alexander is a delightful and loving 11 year old boy with Down’s syndrome. He is one of four children in a family in which the mother is the only bread-winner. Although two of Alexander’s sisters are young adults, they have not been able to find work and, because the father has substance abuse problems, all of the children rely on the mother for sustenance.
Alexander has made great progress through the services he receives in FUVIRESE. If he is to continue to receive all the help he needs, the family needs assistance to cover the $60 monthly cost of physical therapy, special education and transportation.
NOTE: Out of respect for the dignity and privacy of our members, we do not use their full names, nor do the pictures necessarily match the stories. We hope that our words and pictures will show you that they are all beautiful people who would be grateful for your help and concern.
